Famous Women Scientist

JANE GOODALL

Jane Goodall is  perhaps one of the most famous women scientist in the world. She was an ecologist and is most famous for her work with the African Gombe chimpanzees, which she continued over for over thrity years. She was also the first to discover the tools amongst animals. She was a very famous primatologist, ecologist, and anthropologist. She has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues.

I chose Jane Goodall becuase I know that she was pasionate about animals and Africa. I also love animals and want to visit Africa some day. I don't want to be an ecologist, anthroplogist, or a primatoligist but, I am very interested in the her accomplishments. She discovered things to help educate the people in the future and I appreciate her accomplishments.

When you think science what scientist comes to mind? What was this person(s) contributions and why do you admire them?

When I think of science Albert Einstein comes to my mind. He made many contributions to science. A Few examples are general relativity, effecting a revolution in physics. He is also known as the father of modern phyics. I admire him for winning the noble peace prize in 1921 for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect.

Name 2 goals for the remainder of the year

This year, I have many goals as a chemistry student. One of my goals for the remainder of the year would be to have a deeper understanding of chemistry's concepts and purposes.  My second goal would be to improve my study habits in the subject and go in to ask for help when needed.

Reflections

1. Why is this exhibit a good choice for placement in your e-portfolio?
During this project, I learned alot about the element Mercury and what it's used for.  I also learned that I can be creative in making a super hero up from an element and in making a poster.
2.      What did you find most interesting about this exhibit activity and why?
The things I found most interesting was learning that my element was at a liquid state at room temperature.
3.      In what way(s) did you find this exhibit a challenge to complete?
I found it difficult to find some information about my element. For example, I couldn't find any information on the melting and boiling point.
4.      If you were to do this activity again what changes would you make and why?
If I were to this activity over again, I would make sure I did my poster in enough time to make it creative.  Also, I would have collected more information to make my story better.
5.      What change(s) in attitude or behavior helped you to meet the challenge?
I put alot of effort into my poster even though it wasn't my best. I also tried to look up extra information
6.      What grade would you give yourself for these reflections, from “1” to “4”, where “4” is the best? (Refer to the E-Portfolio Reflection Rubric.)Give specific evidence explaining why you gave yourself that grade.
I would give myself a 3 becuase I feel like I didn't answer the questions to my full extent.

If you were an element, what would you be like?

If I were an element my name would be Cassidium. Cassidium would be a metal because it gets along with most elements on the perodic table.  As a metal, Cassidium is  flexible in most siuations and can go any which way like me.  Most of the elements on the perodic table are like Cassidium. Some are not, but Cassidium still gets along with them. Also, Cassidium's boiling point and melting point would be similar becuase I spend so much time outside.

What am I learning about myself as a student in chemistry

I am learing alot about myself  as chemistry student.  I learned that I need to take more efficent notes in class in order to prepare better for tests.  I am also learing that with the chemicals we are using I need to be careful in the lab.  Also, I am learing how to use the lab equpitment and do expierments in class safely.
